green tea protects testes against atrazine-induced toxicity in rat
Authors
abstract
background: atrazine (atz) is a common herbicide in agriculture for control of grass and broad-leaved weeds. it persists in the environment and causes reproductive problems in both human and animals. the present study was aimed at protective effect of green tea against atz toxicity in the reproductive system of male rats. methods: the present study was performed in veterinary school, shahid bahonar university of kerman in 2016. atz and treatment groups received atz daily 200 mg/kg bw orally for 14 d. in addition, 0.2% methanolic green tea extract was administrated in the treatment group. results: in histopathologic investigation, number of germinal layers reduced in the most seminiferous tubules in the atz group and spermatids were absence. necrotic spermatocytes, spermatids, and spermatozoa were evident in the testicular tubules. in the morphometric measurements, tubular diameter, germinal epithelium height, and meiosis index decreased significantly. conclusion: green tea extract had reduced testicular toxicity of atrazine significantly. atz induces toxicity through oxidative damage and green tea extract can protect the testes due to antioxidant activity of its polyphenols especially flavonoids.

full textP-220: Vitamin E Protects Atrazine-Induced Toxicity in Testes of Mature Male Rats
Background: According to several reports there is a positive correlation between the lowered quality of semen and any exposure to toxic compound specially those particularly disrupt endocrine functions. Like other herbicides atrazine (ATR) induces endocrine disruption and consequently interferes with sexual hormones physiological functions. Therefore current study was designed in order to evalu...
full textAdrenomedullin protects rat dorsal root ganglion neurons against doxorubicin-induced toxicity by ameliorating oxidative stress
Objective(s): Despite effective anticancer effects, the use of doxorubicin (DOX) is hindered due to its cardio and neurotoxicity. The neuroprotective effect of adrenomedullin (AM) was shown in several studies. The present study aimed to evaluate the possible protective effects of AM against DOX-induced toxicity in dorsal root ganglia (DRGs) neurons. M...
full textShort-term levosimendan treatment protects rat testes against oxidative stress
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of short-term levosimendan exposure on oxidant/antioxidant status and trace element levels in the testes of rats under physiological conditions. Twenty male Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into two groups of 10 animals each. Group 1 was not exposed to levosimendan and served as control. Levosimendan (12 µg/kg) diluted in 10 mL 0.9%...
full textGeno Protective and Anti-apoptotic Effect of Green Tea against Perinatal Lipopolysaccharide-exposure Induced Liver Toxicity in Rat Newborns
BACKGROUND This study aims to examine the protective effect of green tea on the disturbances in oxidative stress and apoptosis related factors, mostly produced due to perinatal lipopolysaccharide (LPS) exposure, that subsequently induces liver cell damage. MATERIALS AND METHODS Anti-free radical, Antioxidant, scavenging, geno-protective, and antiapoptotic activity of aqueous green tea extract...
full textProphylactic effect of green tea and Nigella sativa extracts against fenitrothion-induced toxicity in rat parotid gland.
OBJECTIVE The aim of the present study was to compare between two antioxidant treatments in prevention of fenitrothion induced toxicity on rat parotid salivary gland. DESIGN Forty adult male Wistar rats with an average weight of 120-150 g were randomised into 4 groups, control (group I), fenitrothion administration (group II), fenitrothion administration 1h after green tea extract or Nigella ...
